Mental and physical health through mindfulness

NoIn the hectic and fast-paced world we live in, we often find ourselves stuck in thoughts of the past or anxious about the future. This lack of full awareness of the present can negatively affect our mental and physical health. That's where mindfulness comes in, a practice that has gained more and more fans around the world. In this article, we'll explore the concept of mindfulness and how its practice can significantly improve our mental and physical health.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness, translated from the English term “mindfulness”, is a form of meditation that involves the ability to be present in the current moment in an intentional and non-judgmental way. That is, it is about paying attention to thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and the environment around us, cultivating a full awareness of the present moment.

The practice of mindfulness has its roots in Buddhist meditative traditions, yet today it is taught and practiced on a secular basis in many parts of the world.

How to practice Mindfulness?

First, find a quiet, comfortable spot, sit or lie down in a relaxed position, and focus on your breathing. Notice the sensation of the breath going in and out of your body, focusing fully on this process. When your mind starts to wander, gently bring your attention back to your breath, without judging yourself for being distracted.

For example, when eating, be aware of the food's flavors, textures, and aromas. When walking, feel the contact of your feet with the ground and the breeze touching your skin. The aim is to bring attention to the present moment, avoiding rumination on the past or excessive concern for the future.
